What is the LSU TEDx Society?
We are a group of TED-enthusiatic people that meet every fortnight to watch TED talks and discuss them with each other. We serve as a platform for debate and to talk about interesting ideas. Our discussions usually stem from a particular TED talk, then gradually transition to broader topics where different perspectives are valued. As a society we see the collective benefit of hearing other’s point of views, and always encourage friendly and open debate. It’s a great place to meet people!
The society also hosts other events, that give students the opportunity to present their own ideas in front of others or to become involved in the volunteering aspect of an event. For example, at the TEDxLoughboroughU conference that the committee organises separately (unrelated to this society).
What is TED?
TED is a nonprofit organisation devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world.
TED talks are complementary to lectures, books and everyday life lessons. They are to be considered the focal point of thoughts and messages that are shared through the platform of TEDx conferences, which are recognised world-wide for the high quality they offer. The talks also provide a diverse food for thought that will challenge you and offer you a new perspective on different aspects of life. And they are fun too.
The 5 most viral topics: Happiness, Knowledge, Ethics, Food, Psychology.
