Dear potential member,

Founded by Bagsy, now an All European Waacking champion, Rawkus is a street dance society within Loughborough University’s students' union. Rawkus welcomes all students and non-students who share a love for dance, regardless of their ability, but provides opportunities for dancers to perform at competitive levels. For example, we are the intermediate street Go Hard or Go Home 2019 winners.

We provide fun and challenging classes that will provide you with the foundations of street dance styles such as hip hop, house, popping, locking, and more. Our teachers Gareth and Rianne are experienced professionals who are passionate and skilled. Rawkus runs two one-hour sessions per week, as well as taking part in performances and events. We will put on socials throughout the year and you can buy your own Rawkus stash too!

You will not regret joining the Rawkus Street Dance family. Find us at the Student Activities Bazaar on Sunday 29th September and come along to our free taster sessions on Monday 30th September and Thursday 3rd October.

We hope to see you in class!

Our Classes

Street Dance with Gareth Woodward—Mondays, 19:30-20:30, William Morris Dance Studio

Gareth Woodward, a Loughborough University alumnus, is an accomplished dancer, choreographer and DJ. He has worked with Mariah Carey, Take That, Coldplay, Cheryl, The X Factor and The Voice UK. He has also appeared in commercials for Cadburys, Cartoon Network, Morrisons and has featured in hit Bollywood films. Gareth has choreographed performance pieces for occasions such as a corporate fashion event for John Lewis and Breakin’ Convention’s national tour—the biggest hip hop festival in the UK. In his classes you will learn popping, locking, house and hip hop, along with other street styles such as waacking, breaking and krump. Expect to learn a strong foundation in these styles as well as their culture and history!

Street-Inspired Choreography with Rianne Gayle—Thursdays, 18:30-19:30, William Morris Dance Studio

Rianne Gayle’s classes are a vibrant amalgamation of her street dance training in France, her time competing in Sheffield with Ink Dance and her experience performing all over the UK with a Caribbean carnival dance troupe. You can expect a range of music and a range of feelings in her choreography. It could be sassy and sexy one week, a street-focussed routine full of swagger the next and a party vibe the week after that. Rianne has quickly become very popular with our members having finished her first year teaching at Rawkus.
