Teaching, learning and play

Loughborough Student Union is committed to developing a service for children under five and their families. This service should honour the needs of young children and celebrate their existence. Successful teaching and play is viewed as being central to the delivery of the nursery provision.

Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates, and all areas of learning and development are equally important and inter-connected. Play provides a rich method for children to express what they know and, most significantly, how they feel about the world and their relationships. Play is the work of a child.

Dedicated time each day is given to teaching communication, language and literacy. Short, sharply focused teaching sessions take place using Fun Time a social communication programme, Letters and Sounds, Disco dough, click on the links below to find out more about them!

The Investigators room has been zoned into learning areas to promote focused teaching and learning. With the art area being transformed from clutter to creativity. Further developments are planned for this room.

The introduction of key person teaching time has made a significant impact on outcomes for children. Key person time is a sharply focused small group session which is planned to meet individual needs but also address any common gaps in learning. This has enable individual children, small groups and whole groups to make good progress
