Freshers!

My name is Filip and I am your Hall Chair for this upcoming year. Along with a committee made up of 18 passionate individuals, and our dedicated Warden Team, we strive to ensure that you get the most out of your Loughborough experience. Royce is situated in the heart of the Student Village, and is a quick two-minute walk to the local shop, Accommodation Centre and the Pilkington Library. It is also a five-minute walk to the Students’ Union, Holywell Gym, lecture theatres and other essential locations on campus. It's the ideal location.

Royce offers a wide range of opportunities for its residents throughout the year. Whether you’re interested in playing a variety of sports, getting involved in charity work or volunteering - Royce has it all. Royce is known for its sporting capabilities, excelling in sports like Rugby, Football, Netball and racquet sports. This year alone, we have maintained our championship in badminton as well as winning titles in other sports. We have also had our IMS teams from badminton, squash and rugby bring home varsity victories against Nottingham’s IMS champions. Furthermore, our Action and RAG Reps continue to uphold our position as a well-established hall in committing to volunteering and charity work, while regularly updating the hall on possible fun projects held by the hall or the university all year round.

Royce is a very sociable hall, hosting punch parties in the common room, block gatherings and other events on a weekly basis – it is the ideal way to meet other residents in different blocks and integrate into the Royce family. On top of that, as we are a catered hall (three meals a day, five times a week, not weekends), the dining hall remains a fantastic way for you to catch up with your mates from different courses and discuss evening plans.

We also organise two balls during the year; the infamous ‘fancy dress’ Christmas Ball and the ‘formal’ Summer Ball, which always exceeds expectations. Furthermore, we host our own RAG event, the Royce 100, which is a 100 lap race around Royce in memory of a former RAG Rep Peter Holmes. The event is open to everyone, and you can run either individually or as a team. Finally, our Hall Day is St. Fred’s Day, a day where we hire inflatables, have a BBQ, personalised t-shirts for the occasion, and a punch party – a day definitely to look forward to during your stay.

All these events contribute to the ultimate and electrifying experience in your first year, and if that is not the case, I’ll owe you a drink.

I hope that after reading this, you will be convinced that Royce is the right Hall to join. I look forward to meeting you all in September.

What is the room bond?

Your room bond is paid to STUDENT ACCOMODATION through their website, who are seperate to Royce. The room bond acts as a deposit which is paid back to you at the end of the year as long as you have not caused any damages during the course of your stay. You should have been sent an email with a link in order to pay this. This also has to be paid before you move in.

Platinum and Gold

Platinum and Gold can be purchased through Loughborough Union's website. It is a memebership paid to Loughboroguh Students Union, a separate entity from Loughborough University or the Halls of Residence. We would highly recommend that you purchase one of these, especially platinum. If you purchase Platinum at a cost of £149, you will get FREE entry to all Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday nights at the union, the most popular nights in Loughborough. This also includes queue jump for those nights, an essential if you don't want to be stuck out in the cold! You will also get a FREE 'Freshers Ball' ticket which is a huge night at the end of Freshers Fortnight, there is always a Headline Act performing, last year this was Sigma! Plus you will get loads of drinks deals throughout the year.

If you purchase Gold at a cost of £89, you only get your FREE entry to the union on Wednesdays and Fridays during freshers and then an odd 1 or 2 throughout the term. You do however get FREE entry to all Tuesday night.

Platinum is the best thing that the Students Union has to offer. Everyone you ask will say it is most definitely worth purchasing. You will be quite surprised how many nights you will actually go out and having Platinum gives you free entry as well as queue jump to all those nights at the union, where normally it is a cost of £4 and a very long queue. If you have Platinum, it is bound to save you money on a night out. Platinum is a 'must buy' by every Loughborough student who enjoys a night out, even if you just want to go out once a week! Make sure you get your hands on the Platinum deal and have a great year at Loughborough.
