The first ever International Showcase was a huge success

On Tuesday 14st March 2017, LSU reached new heights as it hosted its’ first ever International Showcase. Loughborough students from international backgrounds were invited to perform in a cultural performance that best represented their country.

The audience were whisked away on LSU Airlines, courtesy of our ‘cabin crew’ Rahul Mathasing and Salome Dore, who kept our audience entertained throughout the night.

The night ‘took off’ with an impressive performance by Irish Dancing Society, who had only formed as a society 3 weeks before. We then travelled further afield to India with an interactive speech and a cultural song. Aisha treated the audience to a couple of songs from her home country, Syria, giving us all an insight into popular culture there.

Steven, from Vietnam, sang to our audience a traditional Vietnamese bolero song about a lost lover. We are just glad he was able to let go of some emotional ‘baggage’.

We were treated to some exciting performances including a dynamic dance performance by Romanian Society, who took us tourists on an exciting journey through Romania and Moldova.

Before light refreshments, the passengers were treated to some further inflight entertainment of a cultural fashion show, led by our very own Captain of LSU, Jonathan Ako.

Following our interval, our friends from Saudi Arabia gave us a brief history of their country in a drama performance followed by some dancing.

In a turn of events, our performer from Australia really embraced the multi-culturalism of Loughborough and performed a song for us in Japanese.

Salsa Society turned up the heat as they performed three dances in both American and Spanish styles of salsa.

For our penultimate performance, we were back off to China and a musical performance by Yijiang Li, of a popular song from China.

Finally, before ending our journey back at LSU, we stopped off briefly at Cameroon where Trina had prepared for us a video showing the dynamic and interesting sights that Cameroon had to offer.

The night was a total success with no turbulence involved; in fact, it passed with flying colours! Over 250 passengers were on board of the first ever LSU Airlines flight!

Many thanks to all the acts involved, we look forward to seeing you all next year!
