What is Peer Mentoring?
Every first-year undergraduate, Foundation and Erasmus+ and International Exchange student at Loughborough is allocated a Peer Mentor. The Mentor will usually be a student who is from the same school/department, but in their second year or beyond. Students are under no obligation to keep in regular contact with their Mentors, but have the option to do so if they wish.
What do Peer Mentors do?
Peer Mentors act as a student point of contact and are there to help students through their first year at Loughborough university. Whether this is answering questions about student life at Loughborough, tips about your course or information about extra-curriculur activities, Mentoring lets students speak to someone who has been where they are now.
What are the benefits of Peer Mentoring?
Peer Mentoring has a wealth of benefits, both for Mentees and Mentors. For Mentees, it provides a friendly face to chat to, a support network and the opportunity to talk to a student who has already been through the uncertainties and excitement of first-year. Peer Mentoring also generates positive relationships between students, gives Mentors the opportunity to help their peers and contributes to our friendly atmosphere on campus.
How do I contact my Peer Mentor?
Your Mentor should be in contact you via email at the start of Semester 1. You will get the opportunity to meet your Mentor through one of our many Peer Mentor Meet-Ups that run at the start of the academic year. If you would like to talk to your Mentor, you can do so by sending them an email or arrange to meet up with them on campus.
If you are not sure who your Peer Mentor is, please send us a message here letting us know your name and your student ID number, and we will get back to you shortly.
If you are prospective student thinking of coming to Loughborough, or if you are a current student at any stage in your Loughborough journey you can use our Ask a Student feature to get a student perspective on your questions
During the first week at university there will Peer Mentors roaming around campus to help direct you to your lecture theatre, to help you decifer your timetable ormake sense of the Loughborough Students' Dialect. These Mentors are easily identifable with their Peer Mentor Jacket and big "Lost? Here to Help" sign. These are based all over campus to help get you to where you need to be
