The Coaster Challenge is a revamp from last year’s ‘Postcard Challenge’. It is a great opportunity to jot down any idea you have, be it simply an idea or something you are developing! It was started as a way to get students motivated to develop their ideas further with us!
This year it was great to put a twist on the competition where we provided coasters to encourage students to take time out of their day to stop and think with a coffee or tea! It was an inspiration to spark a ‘light bulb moment’ much like we see in some of the greats!
We received a variety of ideas with more than 30 coasters handed in to different enterprising locations around campus: The Enterprise Hub, The Studio and the new Glendonbrook Centre.
After reviewing the applications with the Student Enterprise leaders, we selected the ideas we wanted to progress to the next stage: a 60 second video explaining their idea. The three ideas varied massively from a social enterprise, food app and a kindling cutting device. The videos were put on Facebook for voting where the competition got hot! Judges were selected to help to make the competition fair.
This year’s winner was Jake brown with his idea ‘Utilise’ (Take a look on our Facebook LSU Enterprise to see the video!) After all his hard work, he got to take home a mini iPad!
Look out for next year’s competition!!
